Clean Solar Solutions have cleaned the solar panels at Banbury Academy as part of our ongoing partnership with business green tech company, Ethical Power. The 49.47KW array is made up of 194 modules and will have their solar panels cleaned annually in order to maintain a high level of output.
As you can see from the picture above, there were issues with shading when we inspected the solar panels. The stick that was found on the solar panels would create hard shading across the cells it covered and would have a detrimental effect on the output. Paint residue was also creating shading on the panels. This was removed during the cleaning process.
Along with these issues, the very shallow angle that the panels are mounted at means that water run-off is poor. As a result, rainwater gathers at the lowest edge of the solar panel and encourages algae growth as seen in the picture. Again, this will inhibit output and in turn, the financial return will be lower if left uncleaned.
The above picture shows the difference that solar panel cleaning brought. The panels in the foreground are yet to be cleaned.
